Camellia
The camellia genus was named after Jesuit botanist Georg Joseph Kamel (1661-1706), latinized as G.J. Camellus. Fr. Kamel was a missionary to the Philippines. Camellia blooms are exquisite but not particularly good candidates for altar flower arrangements because of their short stems. Some arrangers use mesh or some such apparatus to hold the stems in place near the bottom of a display, adding greenery and/ or other taller elements for height.
