Wonderful New Church Flower Blog

Reader Gemma has started her own blog called Introibo-with Flowers.

Gemma is a very talented and committed church flower arranger for a Traditional Latin Mass. Here is her "Roses for Our Lady" from September 8, 2019 - the Feast of the Nativity of Our Lady.

And here are her altar flowers for Gaudete Sunday:

Needless to say I will be posting more from Gemma's blog in the future!

Hello Marie-Jacqueline! I just posted a new entry more in the category of vestments. I am excited to read all of your past entries. So many wonderful things on this blog! I enjoy that you too are a fan of Evelyn Waugh. My father just gave me A Bitter Trial to read. Are you familiar with it?

Hi Gemma, I just visited your great new post. I commented about it there. As for "Bitter Trial", to my amazement, I hadn't even heard of it, although I knew Waugh loved the traditional Latin Mass and definitely did not like the liturgical changes. I just looked into the book online, though. Thanks for telling me about it.

Also, twice now when I've read your posts, I've wanted to tell you about a film called Christmas Story that is based on a work by Somerset Maugham. In the film, there is live footage from an actual pre-Vatican II Mass - I think at the Cathedral in Los Angeles. The movie is a grim film noir but the footage of the Mass makes it worth watching. My understanding is that the movie is in the public domain and available for free download at Internet Archive although I haven't checked to make sure.

Yes, how funny you should mention that! I watched that film over the holidays as I came across it in a great post- I can't recall which, something to the effect of "Does your church look anything like this?"- and it showed the clip of the solemn high Christmas Mass. Enthralled, I looked for more info, found the now wreckovated "event space" that was the original, beautiful LA cathedral (horrors! Double horrors when you read the history of what happened and consider the current monstrosity!). I watched the full length film on YouTube. We really are on the same wave-length Marie-Jacqueline.

CORRECTION: The name of the motion picture mentioned above is "Christmas Holiday" not "Christmas Story".

Marie-Jacqueline! I found you can add a subscribe button to the top by going into "Layout" and "Subscription" and "Follow by Email", I believe.

Regarding the veil, all of my "finds" have been given to our traditional priest. I will see if I can get some more pictures this weekend and post better images- great idea! (He also has the baldacchino and I want to do a post about that too!) The embroidered pelican really is beautiful.

Hi Gemma,
Thanks for your comments and the info about subscription. I will look into it. I have a lot "on my plate" right now due to various responsibilities but when I can I will deal with subscription and also put up a "blog roll" or whatever they are currently called. I will include yours and the blog you linked, plus others. I probably won't be as "talkative" during the next couple of weeks but I will definitely keep track of your blog and comments as I can. I am so happy that you have gone ahead with your charming blog. If I fall behind, I will catch up!!!
