December 17 is the first day of the Advent antiphons called O Antiphons
The "O Antiphons" are seven ancient, poetic prayers used during the final week of Advent before evening prayer, each beginning with "O" and addressing Christ with a different Old
Testament title including "O Wisdom," "O Key of David," "O Emmanuel", to
express longing for His coming as the promised Messiah, forming the
basis of the hymn "O Come, O Come, Emmanuel".
They connect ancient prophecies to Jesus, culminating in a powerful
plea for salvation, and their first letters in Latin spell "Ero cras"
("Tomorrow I will come").
